Sheriff Al (And The ‘Police Women’) Hit The Campaign Trail

25 May

When public officeholders start hitting the supermarket circuit you can be sure of one thing — election season has arrived.

Lamberti, right, and BSO Deputy (and TV personality) Andrea Penoyer join forces

Broward County Commissioner Stacy Ritter, who recently filed for reelection, kicked it off several weeks ago with her “Coffee with Stacy” bagel shop events (which haven’t exactly set the world on fire). Now Sheriff Al Lamberti is following in those footsteps with his first-ever “Coffee with the Sheriff” event to be held at a Publix store later this month.

The sheriff, though, is pulling out all the stops. In addition to his regal presence, he’s bringing out the “stars” of the somewhat controversial reality TV show “Police Women of Broward County” and a few other guests. And Lamberti is using the power of the sheriff’s office to get the word out. Here’s the invite Lamberti sent out via BSO’s Cybervisor service, which sends out information on criminal activity and public safety along with the sheriff’s public events. Here’s the invite:

Subject: BSO Cybervisor: Coffee With The Sheriff

Join Sheriff Al Lamberti for coffee & breakfast pastries Saturday, May 28th, at Publix at Monarch Lakes (14375 Miramar Pkwy. in Miramar) from 11:00 am–noon. That same day you can also meet the stars of Police Women of Broward County, Unleashed: K-9 Broward County, BSO’s mascot Quiggley, McGruff the Crime Dog, & BSO’s Forensic Artist John McMahon. Crime Stoppers of Broward County will also be on hand providing child fingerprinting.

— We expect the Scott Rothstein-related arrests to come today, but then again we waited for them all day yesterday. I have a couple of names now, but will hold off until it’s official. Stay tuned.

— In other news, the Sun-Sentinel followed the story about the death of Ilene Lieberman’s sister, Rony Wendrow, at the Strax Rejuvenation cosmetic surgery center in Lauderhill. The most interesting new detail: The family contacted the State Attorney’s Office about the death.

I hate campaign season. People were in here yesterday bashing Granteed. Now Lamberti is using tax payer money to hold a community outreach (campaign) event.

AL you were elected because you weren’t a politician. Dont start acting like one.

Will Lamberti raffle off one of those free BSO000 Superbowl passes at his coffee and pastry events?

Anyone remember Sunrise Mayor Lomelo.? Bagels & cream cheese worked for him-for awhile…..Politicians & elected officials think they’re Top Dogs & we’re a bunch of Fire Hydrants…..The reason they try so hard to get re-elected is that they would hate to make a living under some of the laws they’ve passed..

Will the Sheriff be bringing along Deputy Benjamin? I understand that specific Publix is looking for bagmen.

For your convenience Police Chief Adderley will be directing traffic in the Publix parking lot , if anyone has an accident or a friend of a friend, Adderely will already be on the scene.

Aren’t Lamberti, Benjamin, Wheeler and Adderley being arrested this week for aiding and abbetting Rothstein in his criminal activities? Maybe the Police Women of Broward County will make the arrests ON CAMERA!! Would be the only show worth watching. Let’s get to work, gals!

  7. local10 May 25, 2011 at 9:34 am #

When I called the police women show controversial, it wasn’t just because the show has been paying defendants arrested on the show money to allow their image to appear on camera. From the Sun-Sentinel:

Some victims have also criticized the show, saying they have felt pressured by deputies and the show’s producers to allow the cameras to intrude on their lives.

One woman who reported a date rape to BSO in January said she was disturbed when Sheriff’s Office sex crimes Detective Julie Bower came with an all-male television crew and pushed for her to tell her story on camera. Bower is one of the original stars of the show.

The Sun Sentinel’s policy is not to identify rape victims.

“I started getting upset, crying,” said the Pompano Beach woman, 51, who has since moved to the Orlando area out of fear of running into the man she said drugged and raped her. “I’m reporting a date rape. I’m trying to get someone to listen to me and she’s trying to put me on TV.”

Last month, when an intruder stabbed Boca Raton Municipal Services Director Robert DiChristopher 15 times at his Deerfield Beach home, DiChristopher’s wife, Marcia Sasso, complained about her treatment. She said that a deputy later identified as Shelunda Cooper grabbed her by the arm when Sasso hesitated about being interviewed on camera while she was still in shock and covered in blood.

I sure wouldn’t want my face plastered all over the TV after an upsetting legal incident. Policewomen of Broward County is wrong on many levels. Why are the taxpayers funding this type of nonsense during on-duty hours in the first place. If they are on duty as law enforcement officers, then the “private” entertainment show cameras shouldn’t be there in the first place.

Pulp – When you do a google news search, this blog doesn’t show up. What gives with that?

Also, a friend called me today to let me know Rothstein’s house on Isla Bahia had a brokers open house today. Evidently, the toilets were only painted gold – a mirage of opulence…

      • Christy May 25, 2011 at 8:01 pm #

This will be the Rothstein Toilet seat when his prison term is up.

Yesterday’s blog on judge vote, hands down winner is Victor Tobin. Maybe he’ll get indicted, too, for having his ex-parte conversations with Rosenfeldt and other behavior unbefitting a judge.

Do you have to pass a test proving you are a sociopath and know little about the law to become and remain a Judge in this town? It seems their only training is in how to bully people, throw their weight around and pander to the powerbrokers who help get them elected. I guess they’d have to learn the process of sealing their friends files so no one can see how unfairly they ruled when a pal is involved. Other systems like assigning your close buddies to cases that will get them a new BMW on some poor suckers money, I guess you’d have to learn that. You have to take that word “justice” out of what they do. Someone make sure when the new courthouse that 70% of the paying public adamantly stated they did not want, but are going to get anyway, doesn’t have the word “Justice” etched in the concrete anywhere.

When we moved here in 79′ from the Chicago area I thought I’d be missing all the fun & games of politics…Not so- South Florida has kept me highly amused,& it’s on par with the antics of The Windy City….Both have lot’s of “clout” to pass around….

Anyone remember the tv series called “Dallas”? All of my friends had to get together for Dallas Night for years while that show was on. We would wait all week for it then talk about what happened on the show all week. I didn’t know anyone who didn’t watch it. The suspense was unbearable on what would happen on the next show.

THIS BLOG IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THAT!

    Can’t wait for the arrests.

Let’s get to work, Feds. Let’s get to work Satz. Let’s get to work, taxpayers. Recalls, petitions, exposures, boycotts, it’s time to take back our town.

Al shied away from da cameras then, wish he would do it now. To bad about Libermans sister, don’t wish bad on anyone. One thing I know, if I’m getting cut open, it better not be in a plaza that has a Taco Bell and dry cleaner next door. I’m sure da doctor didn’t graduate from Mackie-Brown College or Kaplan, they got entrance requirements! Ok, gotta go, dis place is getting so busy down here, we all had a good laugh wid dat raputure stuff, we worked ar asses off getting ready for all the broward elected officials that would be joining us, but, man, we get all dressed up and then stood up, Satan said don’t worry, they’ll be here soon enuff. Funny, sometimes I tell Satan stories about Broward and all he does is shake his head and sez, those people are friggin evil!, satan gotta love ’em! Ok, sees you all soon….Norm

Hey there…Dead Norm Abromowitz…I see shades of Mike Royko’s Slats Grobnik in your posting….I’m new to this site, but it has a familiar sound that rings a bell…Went to the Chase Grammar School with Mike…Are you reincarnated.? I belong to a non-prophet organization..Are you trying to make a believer out of me.? Holy Cow.! !

      • Dead Norm Abromowitz May 26, 2011 at 9:05 am #

Yes! I went to Chase Grammar School! But I was in my 60’s and only watched from the fence, that damn restraining order thing!!!!!! Nah, Sorry Lorraine as my fellow peeps say when confronted by da law ” Id ain’t me”!!!!!! I was valedictorian of my grammar school, however I had been left behind a few times and graduated when I was 28….damn, multiplication be hard!

Tell Satan not to laugh too hard. When these corrupt Broward County slime get to hell, they’ll be stealing his wallet.

  15. All That Glitters..... May 25, 2011 at 7:16 pm #

Truth be told..If I lived near Miramar I would go. Sounds like a fun event. One thing you probably won’t be hearing over the store intercom is “CLEAN UP on aisle 12”

    • Death Frog 3 May 25, 2011 at 8:50 pm #

ATG this using public funds to campaign is such BS. BSO touted this cybervisor program to get out urgent public safety messages. Now he’s using them to invite voters (the public) to coffee and danish. Funny how this is happening in Miramar.

Miramar is not a BSO contract city and they do not use BSO services (except dispatch and crime lab). This is clearly an attempt to sway voters. Miramar is one of the fastest growing areas. None of the things he is bringing to Miramar is available to Miramar residents. Miramar has their own PD with all of the same units Lamberti is bringing.

      • All That Glitters..... May 25, 2011 at 9:24 pm #

DF3…I’m happy you posted that. I had on idea. What BS from the BSO Lamberti. And he says he’s not a politician. There should be a counter appearance from the Miramar PD with dounuts and coffee.

  16. anonymous May 25, 2011 at 9:46 pm #

Were Rosenfeldt, Adler, Lippman and Boden been arrested today? If not, WHY NOT????

  17. Death Frog 3 May 25, 2011 at 9:57 pm #

I have defended Lamberti by saying I think he is an honest man. I dont know who is advising him. This is not like a press conference announcing a big arrest or investigation. This is a 100% political stunt.

Here is the description for the cybervisor program…

The more information you have the safer you can be. Registering for BSO’s CyberVisorsm will enable you to receive e-mail or text messages from the Broward Sheriff’s Office with information on criminal activity, traffic, events or other security concerns arising in your business or residential neighborhood. You may also sign up to receive important messages from Sheriff Al Lamberti or breaking news from our Media Relations staff. To get started, simply enter the required information below and choose one or more of the BSO-patrolled cities from which you would like to receive information. Once signed up you will need to confirm your e-mail address, so please keep your e-mail application open.

Nothing about this event makes the residents of Miramar safer. Important message my @ss. I wonder if Scott Israel is going to attend? He should just so it’s not just a Lamberti event, even though his people were in here campaigning *BLEH*

I hope we get a good candidate… Someone honest with good judgement.

Bob – is TD Bank EVER going to get hauled up on the Rothstein Case?? I note new TD Banks popping up all over the place in the FLL area – I understand they DO have “billions” to play with to keep their name out of it, but – their employees did some really naughty things – and TD seems to keep above the fray
