Top Five Things Overheard During Broward County Ethics Training

31 May

The Broward County Commission is spending the day with ethics experts today as part of morality training mandated by voters in the new ethics code.

Stacy Ritter, Ilene Lieberman and the rest of the bunch will learn from the likes of former State Supreme Court Justice Gerald Kogan, new Broward Ethics Czar John Scott, municipal attorney Sam Goren (say what?), and other ethics champions.

Here are a few of the more curious comments overheard during the training:

5. But I use my married name when I lobby cities in my district for developers.  That way it doesn’t count.

4. My campaign isn’t allowed to pay my husband’s lobbying office phone bills? Nonsense.

3. Ron Book is my daughter …. (slap) he’s my sister … (slap) he’s my sister, my daughter … (slap) he’s my sister and my daughter!

2. You don’t understand, it was a very old golf cart.

1. But the Florida Commission on Ethics said I could!

First on the funny post in months

Actually, DF3, it truly isn’t funny…that’s what makes it so tragic. By the way, how many hats can attorney Sam Goren wear at one time? It sometimes seems as if he’s on both sides of an issue, a la Ron Book. I like Sam, but, I don’t understand how he can be representing so many cities…especially when their needs are opposite of each other.

      Patti,

This is an example of gallows humor. Obviously the state of Broward politics is abysmal to say the least. If we dont laugh and look for the humor in these things we would completely go insane.

      • Steve Boren May 31, 2011 at 5:38 pm #

hey DF I think I see a penis on the Rana luteiventris.

    • Snot Rothstein May 31, 2011 at 5:29 pm #

Grow a sense of Humor. Humor is the greatest weapon. Show the total absurdity of these weirdos. Take Ronnie B driving around in a pimp hummer with those two prostitutes frank (the Communist)Ortiz and Che Castillo. You could make this crap up. Now the three amigos are about to screw Pines. Use the humor to ridicule and expose. If more people had laughed at JENJEN and her BONBONS then she would be seem for the ridiculous airhead she really is. Laugh them all out of office.

    That’s it? That’s the story?
I assume you were at this meeting and watched it all? Is that were you got your quotes?
Or did they broadcast this meeting so everyone could watch?

  4. Goldilocks May 31, 2011 at 4:29 pm #

Please help my too literal brain, Bob. Were these truly overheard? Or is this a joke? If a joke, OK – funny. If overheard – more than pathetic.

    • dr_augusta May 31, 2011 at 8:11 pm #

Uh, Goldilocks, Bob was being sarcastic. ( that means he made them up, hon.)

      • Goldilocks May 31, 2011 at 10:08 pm #

        Uh, thanks, Babycakes.

Does anyone think that this “Ethics Training” will benefit those individuals that have spent their entire political career dodging those minefields? They are probably the best people to present the course, they know the rules in detail. They have to in order to avoid and slime past the rules.

    • All That Glitters..... May 31, 2011 at 6:58 pm #

Absolutely correct Bubba. Ethics training only works on honest people. If anyone has ever had the opportunity to see how Ritter conducts herself(Immature, dumb and unprofessional) at the Commission meetings, you would see that “half a truth is said in jest”and BobNorman’s questions are propably not far off the mark.

      • dr_augusta May 31, 2011 at 8:14 pm #

        Glitters,
Many of my friends have seen Ritter out at various meetings and all have told me that she behaves exactly as you report. We are all agog, ethics aside, that her public behavior hasn’t been decried and lambasted more oftent han it has been.

      • Goldilocks May 31, 2011 at 10:10 pm #

I respectfully disagree, to an extent, ATG. I do not believe that ethics can be “taught”, especially at this late date in their adult lives.

  6. Snot Rothstein May 31, 2011 at 5:20 pm #

    6. Have unnecessary bonds for city and county infrastructure and hire John Rodstroms’ firm.
    7. Pretend that you don’t know what your lobbyist spouse does for a living while sipping margaritas on your yacht.
    8. Give organ transplants to your political cronies.
    9. Hire Steve Goren to oversee all of the above.

    • Steve Boren May 31, 2011 at 5:32 pm #

There is nothing unethical about overcharging cities and boards to represent them. It’s what lawyers do.

  7. PerenniallyDeadNorm May 31, 2011 at 6:14 pm #

helllllooooooooooo citizens of Pulpland! Nice Chinatown refernce there, lil incestious as well, which explains everything in Broward. Actually a better movie reference would have been ‘ the power of Christ Compels You”!!! because da only way you gonna get something ethical outta dat bunch is an extorsism!!! just remember, karma, baby, karma.

    • All That Glitters..... May 31, 2011 at 7:39 pm #

      So true Dead Norm!

  10. BobbHartmann May 31, 2011 at 7:37 pm #

The commission is only going through ethics training to keep up appearences.

Nothing will change with the old guard unless SAO Satz keeps things moving and it his election year isnt it.

So does her continue shaking the trees and piss off his fellow dems or roll until next year after the election.

    I guess we’ll see.

Bob – glad to see you still doing double duty daily with the blog – thanks!

    • Bubba The Wise May 31, 2011 at 9:54 pm #

Satz does nothing unless prodded by someone above him. His goal appears to be to avoid any actions against the old guard unless forced. Not an original prosecution in his bag of tricks. Just tries to stay below the radar.

    Pulp,

Once Again I’d like to express my gratitude for all you have done to rid Broward of Corruption and for Exposing the Bastards, as All that Glitter’s would say. I’d also like to say Thank-you to channel 10 for recognizing your fine, accurate journalism. You have done so much for the county and channel 10 will see that taking you into their family was a rewarding and prosperous move for them and the county (If they haven’t already). Pulp, you write the truth and that is what helps this county be a better place. Greed takes many over in this town. Many can go into politics with a true heart only a select few remain true. The rest fall victim to the seductions of money, power and wanna be’s. Stay True and Thank-you Once again.

      Christy
Your words are so poetic, this how I have lived my life and carried on in my career, cough cough

      • Christy May 31, 2011 at 10:52 pm #

        Chief,

Is this your friend Scott Rothstein representing your wife, Eleanor in the beige suit?
How much did you pay him??

  12. Christy May 31, 2011 at 11:01 pm #

“Adderley insists that he only met Rothstein after he hired Rothstein’s firm to represent his wife, Eleanor, who was arrested for firing shots at Adderley after she learned of an affair in 2008.”

    Chief,

Why did you select Rothstein to represent your Wife that shot you?

      Christy
You are so sassy, I do not have a friend named Scott Rothstein, never have known anyone by that name, next question.
Why would I give someone money that I do not know, next question.
Eleanor never shot me, you don’t see any bullet holes in me, next question.
I do have my GED in law, I represented Eleanor Pro Boner, used my influences to get a 5 year felony to a 90 day misdemeanor.

Broward County is such a dirty little town. What’s with “ETHICS” training instead of sending these immoral criminals to jail? I’m mentioning this once again, why not a round-up, mafia-style, of these self-serving assholes? It’s time the people start making the rules. Still no people in the streets with pitchforks. Amazing.
How’s Vic Tobin doing in his new job? Did he work to put any of our military families on the street over the memorial day weekend? What a hero and role model — for the crooks.

  14. The Street June 1, 2011 at 12:28 am #

Tobin will pay a price for his greed and that’s why karma is all about. So greed should be coming back on him double.
